When I hear this song it reminds me of Joey out in New York City. He hipped me to this song at one of Evan's parties in Fort Collins. At the time Evan had some interesting roommates. We came over to his house and his roommates were in the backyard shirtless and in cargo shorts tossing an empty beer keg to each other. Joe called them "a bunch of savages"! At the party Joe played this song, singing every word, embodying the protagonist in the song.
Evan has some much better roommates now.
"Silver Stallion" is the sequel to "Highwayman", only Johnny Cash, the dam builder, does not lead a verse.
